Project Overview:
Bestlady Cosmetics Supermarket, one of the leading cosmetics retailers in Kenya, contracted us to design the UX/UI for their mobile application. The goal of the app was to create a seamless and engaging shopping experience that would allow users to browse and purchase a wide range of cosmetics and beauty products. The app also needed to address customer needs that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as contactless shopping and fast delivery options, ensuring a user-friendly experience while supporting the company’s transition into the e-commerce space.

Key Features:

  • User-Centric Interface: The app was designed with a clean, intuitive interface that makes it easy for users to navigate between different product categories and discover new cosmetics. The design prioritizes usability, minimizing friction at every step of the shopping journey.
  • Personalized Shopping Experience: Integrated features like personalized product recommendations based on user preferences and past purchases to enhance customer satisfaction and drive more conversions.
  • Smooth Checkout Process: A streamlined checkout flow with multiple payment options, ensuring that users can complete their purchases easily and securely, with minimal steps involved.
  • Order Tracking & Notifications: Users can track their orders in real-time, receive updates on their delivery status, and access order history directly from the app.
  • Wishlist & Favorites: Designed a wishlist feature where users can save their favorite products for later, improving user retention and engagement.
  • Promotions and Discounts: Included a dynamic section for special promotions, sales, and discounts that users can apply at checkout, ensuring the app supports marketing goals and sales growth.
  • COVID-19 Features: Integrated contactless delivery options and made sure the app aligned with safety protocols, offering users a secure way to continue shopping from home during the pandemic.

Challenges Addressed:

  • Adapting to a Digital Shopping Model: As the app was designed during the COVID-19 pandemic, a key focus was making it an accessible and convenient alternative to in-store shopping. We ensured the design emphasized ease of use and familiarity for users who were transitioning to online shopping.
  • High Volume of Products: Bestlady Cosmetics stocks a wide range of products, so the challenge was to create a layout that allows users to browse large inventories easily, with filtering options for brands, categories, and price ranges.
  • Mobile-First Design: Ensuring the app’s UI is optimized for mobile devices, with a fast and responsive design that provides a high-quality user experience regardless of device specifications.

Design Principles:

  • Minimalist and Elegant Design: The interface follows a minimalist design approach, with a focus on highlighting products through clean visuals, neutral colors, and easy-to-read typography.
  • Seamless Navigation: Created an intuitive navigation system, using categories, search, and filters to help users find products quickly and efficiently.
  • Consistent Branding: The design reflects Bestlady Cosmetics’ brand identity, using their color scheme and aesthetics to create a unified and recognizable experience.

Tools Used:

  • Design Software: Figma for wireframes, prototypes, and final high-fidelity designs.
  • User Testing: Conducted usability testing to ensure the app meets the needs and expectations of its target audience.

This UX/UI design project helped Bestlady Cosmetics Supermarket successfully transition into the digital retail space by providing a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing mobile application that enhances the overall shopping experience.
